Children's Classes
Our children’s programs aim to equip our younger students with the confidence and the skills to protect themselves from a bully or an attacker. They learn fighting stances, strikes, protective falling, boxing combinations, kicks, basic ground defense and number of grab and choke escapes. Our students learn these as drills and under pressure so that they are able to apply them in a real life situation. We also teach our students about situational awareness, stranger danger and protective behaviors.
However, our programs are not just about teaching our students how to defend themselves. They are also focused on character building and developing important life skills including confidence and self-discipline. Research shows that confident children who look in control and know how to handle themselves are much less likely to be targeted as a victim of bullying or assault. Our students learn respect for their instructors, training area and fellow students through learning and following dojo etiquette. They are also expected to uphold the 7 Virtues of the Bushido code (respect, courage, honour, compassion, honesty, loyalty & integrity) as part of their training and in their everyday life.
Our children’s classes also provide our students with many physical benefits including improved focus, concentration, coordination and fitness.
Beginners Children classes are held at our main training centre on 4b/712 Ranford Road, Southern River We also run an Intermediate class on both days for our more advanced students.

Adults Classes

Freestyle Martial Arts (FMA) – Our Self-Defence Program

Freestyle Martial Arts is our complete all-round self-defence system, designed to prepare students for real-life situations while also improving fitness, confidence, and mental resilience.

This program focuses on four key areas:

• Striking – boxing, kicks, and practical combinations
• Wrestling – takedowns, clinch work, and control
• Ground Fighting – escapes, positions, and submissions
• Combatives – realistic self-defence scenarios and survival skills

FMA blends the most effective techniques from multiple martial arts into one practical system that works in real-world situations, not just in sport.
Students learn fighting stances, striking techniques, boxing combinations, protective falling skills, takedowns, choke escapes, joint locks, grab escapes, and situational awareness. Alongside physical skills, students develop self-discipline, awareness, confidence, and overall fitness.

This is an ideal program for adults who want practical self-defence while enjoying a structured and supportive martial arts experience.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)

We also run beginner Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes for adults aged 16+.
Our BJJ program is affiliated under John Will through the Will Machado Jiu Jitsu banner, ensuring high-quality instruction and proven training methods.

What makes our BJJ program unique is its strong wrestling influence, giving students excellent takedown ability, top control, pressure, and smooth transitions. This style is highly effective for both self-defence and sport and helps students feel confident in standing and ground situations.

Classes focus on positional control and escapes, submissions and defence, takedowns and transitions, and fitness and technique development. The program is taught by our Academy’s Head Instructor Rodney Parkes, who continues to train with Alan Landy from Gladiator Wrestling, Justin Boylan from Total Martial Arts, Paul Marston from Sozokan, and John Will from Redcat / Will Machado Jiu Jitsu.

This ongoing training ensures students receive up-to-date instruction that blends traditional BJJ with modern wrestling-based control. BJJ is perfect for adults wanting a technical, challenging, and rewarding martial art that builds confidence, strength, and problem-solving skills.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) – Beginner Friendly Program
Our MMA program is designed specifically for beginners and everyday people who want to try MMA in a safe, supportive, and structured environment.

This is not a tough-guy fight club. It is a beginner-friendly program focused on learning skills, improving fitness, and building confidence at a comfortable pace.

Classes combine basic striking fundamentals, wrestling-style takedowns and control, and ground fighting and simple submissions. Everything is taught step-by-step, with safety as a priority and plenty of coaching guidance.

This program is ideal for complete beginners, adults returning to fitness, people wanting to learn MMA without pressure, and anyone curious about MMA in a friendly environment.

Students improve cardio, strength, coordination, confidence, and mental toughness while learning real fighting skills in a respectful and positive atmosphere.

Our MMA program also flows naturally into our Freestyle Martial Arts and BJJ programs for those who wish to continue developing their skills further.
